I had the pleasure recently of grabbing lunch with several of my Tampa Bay Bloggers friends at the Tin Drum Asia Cafe for #TampaBayTuesday Twitter Chat. I was so impressed by Tin Drum Cafe I hurried back the next day! Yes, I went back, alone this time, to try more dishes!
Tin Drum offers food from Thailand, Japan, Pakistan, China, Singapore, India and Vietnam at low prices! Yes, I am now a Drummer!
The service was quick and friendly as staff brought several fresh-to-order Asian street-food dishes, in a variety of flavors, to the table. We started with a limited edition dish, their Peking Short Rib Noodles. The Short Ribs were tender and tasty in a peppery-chili-garlic sauce everyone loved. Served over Yakisoba noodles with caramelized carrots and whole house-roasted garlic cloves it was a great start to a great lunch and only available for a short time so go!! On Fridays you can get this tasty short rib noodle dish with a drink for only $7!
If you need to Eat on The Go grab the Peking Short Rib Tacos!
Owner manager Klaus then brought one of my favorite Asian dishes, Tikka Masala! A spicy Indian curry over steamed rice with tomatoes and chicken. Tin Drum’s version is kicked up so if you like hot, you will love this dish. If like my hubby Mild is too hot, you might want to pass on this one. I was in spice heaven with this dish!!
We then tried a classic Asian Mango dish, made with sweet chili sauce, cubes of soft fresh mango, basil, onion, peppers and crispy chicken over white rice this was my favorite dish. I did not get leftovers, my son and husband devoured the Mango Chicken, it was their favorite too.
We ended our visit with Kickin Kimchi, a spicy Tin Drum Kimchi with a fried egg, seaweed, BBQ steak and rice. One of the best I have tried, I will order this again! I drank the house brewed Thai Iced Tea with lunch, refills are free, and they offer bottles of imported and domestic beers too.
So Impressed by Tin Drum Cafe I Hurried Back the Next Day
From the polished floors to the colorful Chinese lanterns, open kitchen and easy-going atmosphere the experience at Tin Drum was entirely different from what I expected. Inspired by the streets of Hong Kong it’s energy is modern and friendly. Tin Drum is a place where you can be comfortable eating alone or with friends; the restaurant is stimulating and vibrant and the food fresh and healthy! I did not want to leave and could not wait to go back!
On day two I ordered the Pad Thai and Panang Curry, two of my all time favorites! After placing my order the gentleman at the register shared one of the special meal deals at Tin Drum, order two entrees w/ a drink and the price drops $5 plus you get two crispy Spring Rolls as an appetizer!
The Pad Thai was citrusy, the rice noodles cooked perfectly and there were plenty of crushed peanuts. I was surprised how thin the Panang curry was, then I tasted it, WOW! It was Panang perfection! I want my Panang curry like this all the time now. The steamed white rice quickly absorbed the curry/coconut milk instead of sitting on top, it was lighter and tasted like nothing I had tried before. I LOVED LOVED LOVED it! Oh and the Crab and Cheese Spring rolls with a sweet and sour dip, a huge hit with me!
I want to try the Coconut soup and the equivalent of Asian comfort food Pad Woon Sen, a type of glass noodle dish perfect for a rainy day….C’mon rain!!!
