How I Doubled my Pinterest Followers With Tailwind
A blogger newbie I had no clue about the hole, nobody tells you about the hole! I want to let you know about it, how I stay out of it and explain how what keeps me out also doubled my Pinterest followers while boosting traffic to my blog.
When I began blogging I had a decent personal Pinterest account, a small following on Twitter and several friends on Facebook. I remember thinking, I love to write, bake, craft, decorate and take photographs; blogging will be fun, I can use my social media accounts to drive traffic, THIS is going to be easy!
Turns out what I didn’t know about blogging was a lot more than what I thought I knew about blogging. I knew my social media accounts could drive traffic but oh my gosh, the distractions you encounter on social media! If you spend any time on ‘the net’ (so rightfully nick-named) you know what I am talking about.
Is time-management a hot-button issue for you?
As a new blogger bombarded by copious amounts of content detailing how I could be the ‘Best Blogger’, a ‘Pinterest Pro’, the most ‘Fascinating Facebooker’ and a ‘Talented Tweeter’ in 12 simple steps my head spun! To my distress I also learned I had a serious problem with time-management, Pinterest!
Several times a day I’d log in to Pin ‘at the appropriate times’ and found all it took was a pretty pin or photo of a yummy dish and I was gone! Diving head first into that Rabbit Hole I’d stay all day, buried, happily reading, whiling away the day looking at pins, gone.
A true Pinterest-a-holic I needed an Intervention; I needed help if I was going to succeed as a blogger. There wasn’t going to be a life to write about unless I found a way to schedule pins without being on Pinterest. This is where my journey began.
I caught a post on Twitter about something called Tailwind, a pin scheduler, announcing an informational webinar with a company called Canva. I signed up for the webinar; the following day I logged in, grabbed my coffee, a notepad, and began to learn.
I learned that Tailwind is a Pinterest Marketing Partner and through them I could create and schedule Pins with Canva. I learned that I could use their pin scheduler to pin content weeks ahead without going on the Pinterest site! I learned about their Chrome extension, which I use constantly now.
It is like Pinterest’s ‘Pin It” button but their extension arranges your content into a sensible schedule so you don’t bombard your followers with pins, putting yourself at risk of losing a follower.
I learned that because Tailwind is a Pinterest Partner they know when my Pins are getting the most ‘action’ and they schedule my Pins with my followers pinning habits in mind; other platforms do not have this extremely valuable insight!
Knowledge is Power!
When the webinar ended I signed up for the free trial from Tailwind and opened a free account with Canva. I was scheduling my pins without going on the Pinterest site during the day and wow, I was getting things done! I wasn’t being sucked into that hole, drifting from one lovely pin to another all day long. I was productive!
Ahhh, but I am fickle! Eventually I saw another shiny penny and gravitated away from Tailwind to try other posting platforms integrating Pinterest into their systems. I quickly learned they couldn’t provide the value Tailwind does. They are not Pinterest Marketing Partners, they weren’t scheduling my Pins when my followers were on Pinterest. And their ‘suggested content’ was generic in comparison.
The content Tailwind suggests is content Pinterest followers want to see! Add Tailwind’s Pinterest analytics and I know which of my pins and boards are performing best; Tailwind shows me which pins I should schedule for re-pinning. Targeting and scheduling re-pins with Tailwind’s Pinterest management tool and free Pinterest scheduling is how I doubled my Pinterest followers using Tailwind. I was productive; my time spent wisely.
My stats last week:
4505 Repins (I am gaining approx. 1766 repins per week)
22 Domain pins (my average has been 15)
43 new Followers up from 36 last week
My stats the following week from my phone notifications:
For me, I cannot afford NOT to be using Tailwind!
A trusted tool Tailwind not only saves me time they assist me in driving traffic from my Pinterest account to my blog. Once my Pinterest account began to grow so did the number of links from Pinterest to my blog. Tailwind re-pins my blog posts to appear on my boards and group boards at just the right time so I am getting the best exposure without seeming spammy; don’t want that!
With Tailwind I set it and forget it; I can go on vacation confident my content is feeding into Pinterest. And God forbid, but if something came up unexpectedly I know Tailwind has my back, they will keep my numbers up assisting me with ranking in Pinterest’s new Smart Feed! There is a noticeable difference when your pins start getting more exposure. Check out this great article about Smart Feed from Melissa Megginson at Tailwind to learn why it is so important.
