It’s most likely you are feeling a little overwhelmed about leaving the comfort of your good friends and family as they wave bon voyage to you at the boarding gate. It can be a very unsettling time for anyone; we know as we’ve been there. Don’t worry, we’ve got it covered!
We organize hot events and parties around the city for our members. Come along and enjoy a cocktail or two when Off The Sidewalk go On The Town, in the first week of every month. These evenings are free of charge for members and in addition we host smaller boutique events which will be ticketed.
You are going to meet some great people from all over the world who are experiencing the same transition as you. We also have some longtime loyal members who still love to come and see us and are always happy to share their wisdom with newcomers too.
Jane Parker – “My husband and I relocated to NYC from New Zealand 18 months ago. We were thrilled to be offered the opportunity to transfer to the big apple even though I had never been here before. As soon as we arrived, my Husband began work, leaving me at home to find an apartment, connect cable tv, work out where to do our grocery shopping and most importantly, complete my documentation that would allow me to work in the States. I didn’t know a soul here so I really had to begin a new life from scratch which was personally really difficult for me. Not having your friends and family around you to offer their support can be tough when you are trying to re establish yourself.
I heard about Off The Sidewalk through my Husband’s work colleague. I was nervous to go along to my first Off The Sidewalk social on my own but knew I had to start somewhere! After half an hour of chatting to other newly relocated expats from across the globe, it was clear that there was a common theme; we were all trying to settle in to the city while finding new careers and building new friendships. We were all facing the same challenges from filing our work visa documentation to navigating our way on the subway.
From that first Off The Sidewalk social, I have made not only good friends but friends that my Husband and I will both have for life. Off The Sidewalk gives each of their members a forum to connect with people in similar situations, who we can share our difficulties and have our questions answered. Off The Sidewalk has made the settling in process to NY life so much easier.”
