Moving to New York
Pre-departure checklist

  • Start researching neighbourhoods and accommodation in New York.
  • Check-in with Off the Sidewalk’s Settling-In Service.
  • Organize a removal company
  • Set up mail redirection
  • Close all utility accounts
  • Alert the bank to your travel plans.
  • Inform all insurers – medical, life, car, etc
  • Keep important documents to hand: birth certificate, marriage certificate, academic records, employment records, wills. Ensure you have all your children’s medical records including their immunisation schedule.

Social Security Number.
A Social Security number enables you to work, use your health insurance, pay taxes, open a bank account and much more. It is one of the first documents and pieces of ID you should get when you arrive in the US. You will need your passport, Visa and I-94 to apply.

Employment Authorization Card.
